Chris Craft

Boat builder Chris Craft was well known for their inboard engines and in the late 1940's ventured into the outboard motor business with the 5 1/2hp Challenger & 10hp Commander. These two models were offered through the 1953 season and were well regarded, fast outboards. See also the Oliver outboard page on this website: Oliver Outboards

Chris Craft built very fine boats and marine inboard engines. From 1949 to 1953 they dabled in outboards building the 5.5 hp example seen here and a 10hp Commander. These were great little motors and run fabulously.

It is reported that production ceased in 1953 due to patent issues with Mercury. Chris Craft sold the tooling to their outboards off to the Oliver tractor company and in 1955 they reapeared as Oliver outboards.
